B&B chats to Natalie, Founder of Handmade by Natski
We completely fell in love with Natalie’s delicate sleep masks, made from luxurious Liberty London, silk and cotton fabrics. Natalie, like many, was presented with an opportunity in lockdown to spend more time doing what she loved - sewing! She saw the opportunity to get out her sewing machine and wile away the hours at her home in Lichfield, designing delightful creations made from her favourite Liberty fabrics.
During our chat with Natalie, she imparted some great advice for anyone who shares a passion for sewing and wants to turn their hobby into a full-time career. We discussed how Natalie has found running Handmade by Natski and the challenges and successes that come with owning a handmade business. What inspired you to start a business making sleep masks?
My business started as a hobby during lockdown. I got back into sewing and creating different accessories, which was something I loved doing as a teenager. I started selling my products and got some great feedback so decided to go for it, it's the best career move I've ever made. I love my job!
What do you love most about being a business owner?
Being my own boss.
What do you find most challenging about running a business?
The cost of materials, prices have gone up so much in the last couple of years
What’s your greatest personal achievement in relation to the business, so far?
Turning my hobby into my career.
What’s your main source of inspiration when designing/ making your products, and what’s your personal favourite product that you sell?
Customer satisfaction. I put all my efforts into making products that will make a difference to my customers relaxation, meditation and sleep. I love reading great feedback from my customers.
My favourite product would have to be my weighted eye masks. They are so comfortable and really do help when you feel like chilling out and relaxing.
What would be the one piece of advice you’d give someone that wants to turn their passion into a business?
Go for it!
